PUSH-PROXY: how can I turn on logging for the mm-push-proxy?

Hi
we have installed a Mattermost server and it is working fine. Push notifications are working also, including the iOS app using the test-push-proxy.
We did setup our own push-proxy now and re-compiled the iOS app with our own certificates, but we cannot get the push-proxy to work submit the messages. The process is running and answers on port 8066. Is there a way to turn on logging within the push-proxy? The MM log only says that it is has send the notification and does not report any error:

WebSockets on CentOS 6

So after many hours of configuring Mattermost, I have as far as I am aware only one issue left.

I am using GitLab Mattermost on CentOS 6, and I am using Apache/2.2.15.
I do not know of any way to proxy WebSockets on Apache unless you have Apache 2.4 or higher, or compile the entirety of Apache again with a couple of patches.

If there is no way to proxy WebSockets through port 443 without having a large chance of breaking things, can I configure Mattermost not to annoy users by showing the following popup?: "Please check connection, Mattermost unreachable. If issue persists, ask administrator to check WebSocket port."
I mean, that popup comes back after a second when clicking it away.

Large image thumbnails / previews

Hi there,

In the blogpost about Mattermost 2.1 release ( http://www.mattermost.org/mattermost-2-1-android-windows-linux-and-mac-apps-plus-portuguese/ ), there is a screenshot of the windows electron app, showing a preview of an image using full width of the chat space.

How do I achieve that behavior? No matter how I extend the ThumbnailWidth option, I just get a small square crop of the picture. Would it be possible to:

  • extend the size of the thumbnail
  • set it to resize rather than to crop, so that it is immediately clear what is on the picture (sometimes crop of the top left corner is not so informative)

Thank you for your great work, I really enjoy Mattermost.

Dear Team,

A few weeks ago, my push iOS notification tests to a testuser still worked fine.
Now the Android App is out and Push notifications to Android work great.

BUT now, iOS Pushes are not being received, all users have that issue, and i dont know what's wrong.. Do you have any hint for me?
I've attached the Debug-Level Log, and cant find any error message or whatsoever in there.

Please be Aware that i've anonymized the "Sending push notification to ..." lines.
If you Need the original ones, or the IP Adress of my Test-Server, please contact me..

Changing from HTTP to HTTPS results in ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED for both Mattermost & GitLab

@revxx14 wrote:

Changing the mattermost_external_url in my gitlab.rb to https instead of http (and then running sudo gitlab-ctl reconfigure) results in an "ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED" error in Chrome, for both Mattermost and GitLab. No idea why this would be happening, seems odd that it's afffecting my GitLab instance as well.

I'm using Ubuntu 15.04, and I have Let's Encrypt set up for my GitLab instance. I haven't generated any SSL certificates for my Mattermost instance yet.

Here's a screenshot of the error.

Any idea why this would be happening?

EDIT: I just checked my System Console, and I think this is the error it's producing when it's set to HTTPS: Failed to get security update information from Mattermost.

EDIT 2: I just had another thought about this: Could it be causing issues because Mattermost rules on a separate port, and trying to set it to HTTPS is trying to use the same port as GitLab?

Unifying user accounts across teams for Mattermost 2.2

$

@lfbrock wrote:

Hi everyone, there is a significant user model change planned for Mattermost 2.2 shipping on April 16. It's been discussed with key contributors and their deployments and we want to gather more feedback and considerations from the broader community.

Design challenge

Mattermost was designed as a self-hosted solution for team communication where users were considered "team members". A user did not exist without a team.
This became problematic for organizations with multiple teams, because one user needed multiple accounts for each team. This meant a user had to check multiple accounts in order to receive their direct messages.

Design approach

To solve this issue, Mattermost 2.2 will enable accounts to be unified across teams.

This means:

  1. Users now create one account per server
  2. One set of account settings applies across teams
    • Question: How high a priority is it to have different theme color options per team on user accounts?
  3. The "Find my team" feature is no longer needed, any user who is logged in will be able to switch to or join any team for which they have permission
  4. Teams can add team members from the list of members on the server, in addition to inviting non-users to create accounts via link or email as is available today
  5. Direct messages work the same way across all teams--any user on the server can message any other user on the server without being restricted by team
    • How high a priority is it to add an option to limit the users added to the DM list per team to members of the team?
  6. Account usernames and emails need to be unique across the system.
  7. Users with accounts using identical usernames or email addresses will require some migration steps, which we'll be working on this month.

Hi all, I've been doing some research but haven't found any solutions to this when trying to run 'make test' in the dev environment. Here is the full error:

/bin/sh: $HOME/go/bin/godep: No such file or directory

I tried creating a bin directory in /go and downloading godep there, but that led to the error:

godep: WARNING: Go version (go1.6) & $GO15VENDOREXPERIMENT= wants to enable the vendor experiment, but disabling because a Godep workspace (Godeps/_workspace) exists

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello,

I have a question about the search behavior. Is there a way to include results from public channels that I am not a member of? I left a channel, and then I was surprised when a keyword search didn't bring back results from that channel.

On a very related note, I was surprised when someone mentioned me in a new channel, but I did not receive a notification, because I hadn't joined the channel yet.

the fix mentioned here http://forum.mattermost.org/t/cli-tool-crashing-missing-translation/959/2 by @it33 nor the one mentioned by @cyball seem to have made it to the final release :disappointed:
the workaround downloading https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mattermost/platform/master/i18n/en.json seems to do the job, but now html templates are missing :confused:

Incoming webhook throws 404 b/c of template error

@nachokb wrote:

This is similar to [1] but bear with me, please.

I'm running 2.1.0 (2cd006474ec8a808).

Tried the slack-notifier gem and it was throwing 404 (I had taken the URL from Mattermost and it looked correct.

Tried using cURL with curl -i -X POST -d 'payload={"text": "Hello, this is some text."}' http://mydomain:myport/hooks/123456123456abcdef (taken from [1]) and it also threw 404's.

Then I saw the reason in the logs:

[2016/03/22 23:52:32 UTC] [EROR] /hooks/deadbeef: code=404 ip=1.2.3.4
[2016/03/22 23:52:32 UTC] [EROR] Error rendering template error err=html/template:error.html:4:11: no such template "head"
[2016/03/22 23:52:32 UTC] [EROR] Failed to create error page: html/template:error.html:4:11: no such template "head", Original error: Handle404: ,

It seems it's trying to render an error page, so it might be masking another error behind it...

Will keep looking.

Is there a **simple** way to automatically email messages to an external email distribution list

$

@BlueAnanas wrote:

After the introduction of mattermost there are always people lagging behind and sticking to their beloved mailing lists :cry: Unfortunately you can't always just don't care. The best would be if these people would get the messages posted in mattermost into the Email.

There seem to be alot of possibilities with outgoing webhooks, but setting up a whole web-to -email gateway for a couple of jerks wishing to stay in stone age of communication is just too much. :laughing:

Any ideas?

I came up with the idea to set up a specific user called "mailer" which email points to the distribution list email. If someone mentions @mailer in his message then, the message gets distributed to the people still on the mailing list. Unfortunately this is still too wacky for production because:

  • The subject line is messy. Is there any way to have at least something like "Message from Mattermost" maybe even mention the user who has written the message?
  • The Mail body is messy as well. Is there any possibility to put the message first and the rest of the Mattermost mentions and channel links somewhere on the bottom?
  • All sort of notificationswill go through. Is there a possibility to have Email only on mentions?

Omnibus installer broken in 8.6.0?

@jkohl wrote:

Hi,

I recently upgrade from 8.4.x to 8.6.0 of an installation which disabled gitlab and only runs mattermost via HTTP on port 8065 on CentOS 6.5. After upgrading with yum to 8.6.0 mattermost wasn't responding on port 8065 despite I could see mattermost running on that box and saw that it responsed to 127.0.0.1:8065.

Poking around a bit I found that gitlab was active on port 80 (it shouldn't be there) and in /var/opt/gitlab/nginx/conf there were two configs, one for gitlab on port 80 and mattermost also on port 80. Changing mattermost to port 8065 and run gitlab-ctl restart nginx it worked again.

So with this working I tried to enable SSL for mattermost. All changes I make to mattermost[…] variables in /etc/gitlab/gitlab.rb gets ignored.

That wasn't the case in 8.4.x.

Should I wait for 8.6.1 or can I do something by my own?

Can I white label mattermost?

$

@kramer65 wrote:

I'm looking for clarity on the question of whether your rather confusing license permits white labeling mattermost.

I first started an issue on github about this (id 2464, I can just include 2 links in this post), which was answered with a vague "not recommended for security reasons" and then immediately closed. I opened another issue (id 2467) which was then answered with a lengthy text saying that github is not the place to ask questions about white labeling (which is of course true) and that this has already been discussed at length on the forums, with a reference to this thread in which there is no clear answer and even the OP concludes that he still doesn't know what your policy is on white labeling.

Seeing that you advertise Mattermost as the "open source, self-hosted Slack-alternative" and you are easy to mention the MIT license, I assumed white labeling is not a problem. But it turns out that only your compiled versions are governed by the MIT (seriously.. a compiled blob under MIT?), your source code has little to do with the MIT-license and is governed by some kind of weird combination of the AGPL with exceptions and a mixin with commercial licenses.

To clear this confusion I call on @it33 (or somebody else from the Mattermost team) to please clearly answer my question:

Can I white label mattermost?

If not, please be transparent about it and tell me what I can do with the source code in this area? And also, what's your pricing on white labeling?

Looking forward to your response.
